$115,000 Gift to C5 Georgia Youth Foundation

The Chestnut Family Foundation has donated $115,000 to the C5 Georgia Youth Foundation. This gift will support C5 Georgia’s 2023 Leadership Camp, the 2023 National Outdoor Leadership School trip, and help fund the additional staff needed to improve the size and sustainability of its programming.

C5 runs a five-year leadership development program for high-potential middle and high school students from under-resourced community. By developing these young people as leaders, C5 Georgia also creates a new generation of leaders ready not only for personal fulfilment but with the tools and motivation to help the communities for which they came.

We are excited at the prospect of future growth in the impact of C5 Georgia’s leadership programs.

$530,000 Three-Year Commitment to enhance the Atlanta Music Project Chestnut Family College Scholarship Fund

The Chestnut Family Foundation has made a three-year $530,000 commitment to our longtime partner, Atlanta Music Project (AMP), to enhance AMP’s Chestnut Family College Scholarship Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to aid AMP graduates who wish to continue their education beyond high school.

The Fund is administered by AMP and applicants are evaluated by a group of AMP constituents, including either a current AMP student or AMP alum.  We believe this visionary approach will further strengthen AMP programs and their positive impact on some of our most under-resourced communities.

Atlanta Music Project is a creative and award-winning youth development program, which uses the discipline of music to help children and teens develop the social, emotional, and cognitive skills they need to succeed.

We are very proud to continue our partnership with AMP, and grateful for the commitment and creativity of its leaders, team members, and students.

$5,000,000 Pledge to City of Refuge’s Breaking Barriers. Building Momentum. Campaign

The Chestnut Family Foundation has pledged $5,000,000 to City of Refuge’s Breaking Barriers. Building Momentum. Campaign. The campaign, which launched in December, will enable City of Refuge to expand the opportunities provided to men, women and children residing in Atlanta’s Westside. The campaign initiatives include a Transformation Center, transitional housing and a Paths to Homeownership program, campus improvements and capacity building and funding to support the formation of City of Refuge satellite organizations in other cities.

“Ben and I are very proud to support the highly impactful work that City of Refuge is doing to transform the lives of children and families living in Atlanta’s Westside. We are inspired by their plans to increase health and wellness opportunities, provide safe and affordable housing options and expand career opportunities through their proven workforce development programs,” said Teresa Chestnut, Trustee of the Chestnut Family Foundation. “City of Refuge’s comprehensive approach is designed to break the cycle of poverty by giving people the tools and resources to change their lives. We believe in City of Refuge’s approach and are delighted to support the Breaking Barriers. Building Momentum. campaign which will help more people find pathways to reach their full potential. City of Refuge’s work is invaluable to the city of Atlanta and to our community as a whole.”

City of Refuge was founded in 1997 to provide food and shelter for those in tremendous need on Atlanta’s Westside. Their renovated warehouse, the size of a city block, in the heart of zip code 30314 serves as a center “Where Good Works,” connecting some of Atlanta’s most vulnerable citizens to all the services they need to move from crisis to dignity and independence.

We're proud to continue our partnership with City or Refuge and the incredible work they are doing to serve our community!
